Meet Your Trainers...
Mark Campbell
Pro Trainer, motivational speaker, changer of lives. Built this studio with his bare hands. Trained us all.
My life was forever changed the day I sustained severe neck and back injuries and my arm was nearly severed in a car accident. The surgeon reluctantly agreed not to amputate, but warned it would not be functional. With enormous determination, I was able to rehabilitate my arm to half it's normal function but despite the barrage of pain medications, the condition of my neck and back continued to deteriorate. My doctor insisted I pursue fitness in addition to my other treatments, which seemed impossible considering I was already tired and in pain. Having never been in a gym before, I started with the treadmill. I was intimidated by all the fit people around me, but I was determined to continue because 'everyone has to start somewhere'. A personal trainer gave me information that became the tool I needed to take back my freedom and build self-confidence. Once I applied these tools, it changed my life.
I moved to Toronto for my job and got a membership at a studio gym that focused on personal training. I noticed that the development of those who worked with a trainer far exceeded those who didn't. No matter what the client's goals were, they achieved it faster; and I sought similar gratification! I enrolled in Canadian Fitness Professionals (Can-Fit-Pro) to become a personal trainer specialist. I discovered many complexities of the human body, the proper techniques for the desired results and information that can benefit each and every client and their individual goals. Achieving certification inspired me to take another step in the direction of health and fitness as a career – since I was so thrilled with the positive results training had on my own body.
With friends and family in Edmonton, I chose it as my home. I am now a PRO trainer and owner of 3 Marked Improvement Personal Fitness locations.
I invite you to discover how fitness can change your life.
Ginette Biro
Ginette Biro Recently moved to Edmonton from the West Coast, where hails from White Rock, BC. She's always lived an active lifestyle, which naturally led her to complete a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology, and a Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science. Having worked as a Kinesiologist in a chronic and acute clinical setting, Ginette realized that she wanted to specialize in functional fitness so she could help clients prevent injuries and live an active lifestyle. "As a Personal Trainer and Kinesiologist, my focus is to provide clients with an hour of fun and fitness based on realistic and attainable goals. Fitness should not be a chore, it should be a positive part of your day. I am passionate about sharing the knowledge I have gained to help others live a healthier lifestyle."
She attained her Bachelors degree in Kinesiology from the University of the Frazer Valley, and her Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science from Douglas College.
Ginette likes many adventurous-type sports. Anything from wakeboarding, rock climbing, dirt biking, skiing, to more artistic sports such as dance, and figure skating. Her motto is to "try any sport at least once"…but draws the line at bungee jumping!
She also enjoys exploring the world! Some of her travels have taken her to Egypt, Afghanistan, Dubai, Germany, Belgium, Arctic Canada, Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Her next adventure will be either Peru or Ireland. And, of course, lots of time this summer at her cabin by the lake.
Don't hesitate to make a positive step towards a healthier and happier you! I look forward to training with you!
Mackenzie Clarke
Certified Personal Trainer. Specialty: sculpting muscle, and his clients are the 'clay'.
My passion and love for fitness all started in grade 10; with nothing more then my best friend's dusty garage filled with antique weights, a bench, and a garden hose for resistance curls.
Working out gave me a feeling of chills down my spine and a sense of accomplishment every day and night. That love soon encompassed my school gym, which at the time was more of a ghost town then anything else. I couldn't understand why no one else loved the feeling and the sense of accomplishment that I was feeling, so my best guess was that they just hadn't found that feeling yet!
…So I started to bring people into the school's gym to try it and in no time I had a large group of us going to the gym everyday after school or during breaks. It was really then that I realized I was changing peoples' lives, and they were changing other people's lives because I did something. That's when I knew for sure what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.
I was always active in sports, mainly hockey but working out was different. It gave me a satisfaction that I had never ever felt before and an even greater satisfaction helping someone who was once in my position learn how to work out properly. I attained my Personal Trainer's certification and never looked back.
Since then, changing people's lives with fitness is the greatest reward I could ever imagine receiving. To find something you are truly passionate about and wouldn't give up for the world is a difficult thing to find. Whether you train for a sport or for your own health it's my pleasure and privilege to give all of my clients not only the tools that I have learned over the years but the motivation to push to your ultimate goals.
And in the end I'll give you something that you will take with you forever.

"I dare you"...the three words that basically changed the course of my life.
My interest in health and fitness started at the early age of 14. When most kids were spending their allowance on random junk, I asked for a gym pass where I'd spend most of my free time. What drew me there, I will never know but be forever grateful.
When I was 21 years old and studying Exercise Rehabilitation at the University of Alberta, I spent the summer between first and second year traveling in Japan. Upon my return, I discovered I had "plumped up" after enjoying a bit too much of the local cuisine. I hit the gym with a vengeance, putting all of my knowledge to use. It was around this time that I was "dared" to enter my first Fitness Show by a close friend, and who was I NOT to take on a dare??? "Let me show you" I thought, going on to take 2nd in my first show and I was hooked!
Fast forward 5 years to 2006, I've graduated with my degree in Exercise Rehabilitation with an extra year in Sports Nutrition and have also been certified by the AFLCA. In 2006, I competed with the top physique athletes from across Canada and won not only my class, but the entire show. This earned me Professional Figure status with the IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding). I've gone on to compete in 2 Professional shows (14 shows in total) and remain active in the sport by judging, competing and training competitors. Winning my IFBB Pro card has been one of my greatest achievements in my life thus far.
I feel what sets me apart from other trainers is my unique experiences and understanding of what proper nutrition is...80% of what we achieve in the gym is reflected in the way we eat! I've worked with over 100 people, successfully helping them change their lives through proper nutrition and exercise.
My passion and my purpose is to help others understand how valuable our health is by sharing my own experiences and knowledge. Educating others on the benefits of Nutrition, combined with exercise, is my goal and top priority!
Andy Lewis
Andy is a certified Personal Trainer who has been training in a gym environment for over 16 years. He has been active throughout his life playing a variety of sports and excelled in both hockey and professional wrestling. He has been with the St Albert Marked Improvement team since September 2010.
Andy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved with his family to Edmonton in 1986. He grew up there, playing hockey until university. It was at that time he decided to become serious about his fitness level and his body and hired a Personal Trainer. He learned quickly which fueled his passion for fitness and weight training leading to the pursuit of one of his life long dreams: becoming a Professional Wrestler.
In April 1996, Andy moved back to Winnipeg to begin training. Similar to his experience with the gym, Andy learned and adapted quickly and within four months made his first wrestling trip to the United States. That trip set off a chain of events which led Andy to chase his dream outside of Canada, spending time living and wrestling in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Mexico, Japan and England. A non-wrestling related injury in August 2004 paved the way for a new direction in his life.
After several years of working in the dairy, alcohol and soda industries, Andy has come back to one of his original loves; physical activity. More specifically, Personal Training.
His personal love for the gym combined with his desire and motivation to help others reach their goals, improve themselves and make everyone around him smile drives him on a daily basis. He loves working with individuals just starting their training journey or are a bit timid when it comes to being in a gym setting. He also loves the challenge of working with those individuals who have hit plateaus in their training and are looking to make some positive changes to re-start their progress.
Andy feels that training in the gym is rewarding in all physical, mental and emotional levels. He truly believes that coming to the gym and working out is one of the most empowering and rewarding activities an individual can engage in. Constantly improving yourself in the gym will ultimately lead to personal improvement outside the gym.
"Strive for excellence, exceed yourself, love your friends, speak the truth, practice fidelity and honor your father and mother. These principles will help you master yourself, make you strong, give you hope and put you on the path to greatness" - Joe Weider

Justine VanRuskenveld
I'm a Manager and Certified Personal Trainer with Marked Improvement Personal Fitness Training.
My educational background is in Health and Wellness, specifically, Recreation Programming. I believe that a healthy person meets all 6 components of wellness: physical, spiritual, emotional, occupational, intellectual, and social. Wellness is complete when these needs are attended to on an even basis, not one being over or under valued.
In my, almost, 20 yrs of physical training I have accomplished many goals. My career began on the mainland of British Columbia, training in cross country endurance running. After completing my schooling at Camosun College and the University of Victoria, I was motivated in Fitness Leadership and began certification with BCRPA Resistance, Aqua, Group, Third Age, Mind/Body and Personal Training. This training took me to the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort and Spa where I aspired to become their Program Coordinator. The inner harbour of Victoria, BC is a wonderful place to be!!
Life continued and I moved to Red Deer, AB with my young family. It was there that I chose to look outside the box of child care and create my own. For a period of time I focused on raising my own children and looking after others. I kept close to my values of wellness and ran a Day home, focusing on Active Children. What a wonderful experience!
It was in Red Deer that I was introduced to the Power Plate. I took the certification for whole body vibration and began to update my previous fitness credentials.
Life is always changing, and as of December 2009, I became an Edmontonian once again. I'm proud to be a part of the Marked Improvement team and I am dedicated to the clientele who allow me to 'do what I love'.
May the beauty of what you love, be what you do (Rumi).
Cheryl Glattacker
I am a certified personal trainer and certified TRX suspension trainer at Marked Improvement Personal Training Studio located in St. Albert.
I grew up in a military background and was transferred several times before finally residing in St. Albert in 1990. It's a beautiful community with many walking and running paths, which quickly interested me in becoming a runner.
After several road races, half marathons and a full marathon, it was time to start a new fitness journey. In January of 2008 I met my personal trainer at a family gathering. Today, he is still my trainer, my mentor and one of my closest friends, Mark Campbell. I trained for and completed my first figure competition in 2008, placing third in Alberta. In 2009 I decided to pursue certification as a personal trainer as I realized this was my true passion.
I recognize the importance of mind, body and soul in achieving your health and fitness goals. I will create a friendly, warm and fun atmosphere during all your personal training sessions. At the same time, I will keep you motivated by challenging you and inspiring you along the way to reach your personal goals.
Live with intention, walk to the edge, listen hard, practice wellness, play with abandon, laugh, choose with no regret, continue to learn, appreciate your friends, do what you love, live as if this is all there is. - Mary Anne Radmacher.
Mitch Hagglund
Mitch's passion for fitness didn't begin until he was 18. Growing up always considered the 'fat kid' his whole life. Currently weighing nearly 290 pounds, he took the first step and got a gym membership. But didn't notice any results because he really had no idea what to do.
It wasn't until he was 20 he realized he 'really wanted it' and started using the Internet to research what to do at the gym and how to do it. Up until this point in his life he wouldn't even be able to answer the question "what's a calorie?" When he started researching about fitness and nutrition everything changed, his diet, workouts, and cutting out alcohol.
Now getting results he became excited about what he was doing and loved it. But the inevitable happened, reaching a plateau. Frustrated he got a personal trainer at Marked Improvement.
To date Mitch has lost 90 pounds, increased his energy levels, toned his whole body, and improved his posture. People always ask the questions "how did you do it?" and "can you give me advice please?" his answer is always "Yes! I would love to help!"
This was when he wanted to be a personal trainer, so he took the Personal Trainer Specialist with Mark Campbell. Now with all the way he has changed his life, he would love to help improve yours too!
Jessica Laforest
Growing up in a household of two older brothers and no sisters I was always up to the challenge of whatever it was that my brothers were up to. This is how my journey to fitness started. My brothers would go to the gym and workout in my parents basement, being the sister that didn't want to be left out I decided to workout with them. Since then, I have been addicted to working out and pushing myself to the limits. Then came by second addiction, kickboxing.
I graduated from high school in 2004 not knowing what it was I wanted to do with my life. I always knew I wanted a career that would involve some aspect of health and wellness. I went to NAIT, graduating with a diploma in Biological Sciences Laboratory and Research and worked in a pharmaceutical lab for a year. I then enrolled at MacEwan University for the Bachelor of Science degree program only to transfer into the Psychiatric Nursing department. But it wasn't until summer of 2010 when I really found what I loved to do, it was when I took the Can Fit Pro course and became a certified personal trainer, and ever since then I have never been more excited!
To me exercise is fun, it's exciting and most importantly it's challenging. My goal as a personal trainer is to be an inspiration and a motivator, to show you how you can transform into the impossible and become the best version of yourself. I want to continue to learn so I can continue to challenge my clients and become the best that I can possibly be. Life is a beautiful gift and its up to us to live up to it's full potential. Without fitness we are missing out on the greatest and most exciting part of our lives. Let me show you how fitness can become your healthiest addiction!

Toby Zeigler
Ever watch the football game and say to yourself, "Those guys are amazing". Well they are and guess what, you are too. It's all a little thing I call "WANT TO"!!! There's no way myself or any other professional athlete could be where they are today didn't have it. To tell you the truth you wouldn't be where you are today if you didn't "WANT TO". Maybe you're not a professional athlete, but that's not because you can't be. It's because you don't "WANT TO" be a pro. You want to be a mother, father, contractor, salesman, etc… what ever you are, you are because you "WANT TO" be. So now that you know you have it, it's time for me to pull it out of you.
My passion for fitness was not one of those slap me in the face moments. I started playing organized football at the age of 6 so I always had an interest in fitness. My passion to help "YOU" however started when I was released by the Edmonton Eskimos and reality set in. The business side of football is real when you turn pro and the world waits on no one, so I had to catch up. Still pursuing my dream I joined a local gym to keep my physique and conditioning at a competitive level. Trainers at the gym would always want to know what I did for a living. They would always be asking for tips or ideas of exercises they could use in their training routine. That was when I knew that the fitness industry would be the perfect transition when football was over.
With football still in the picture, I was led to get a job at the gym as a membership salesman. Just the fact I could convince people to come to a gym and workout was great. I was helping change lives and it was easy. Something was missing though. I felt like I could do more to help. Sure I can get you in the gym and get you started but why not get what you really wanted when you made the decision to come by the gym. Something made you come, not me. It was that "WANT TO" that you didn't know you had.
